![]() Numerous bosses seemed like a punishing repetition of taking hit after seemingly unavoidable hit until you see just what the game is trying to get you to do, and I feel like this game could have done a better job indicating just what it was players are doing wrong in these sections. Unfortunately, the need to attach both sides of the hook can be fiddly, and this game often seems to require the player to be doing things it doesn’t really make clear. And when it’s playing well, this is a really fantastic experience. On the one hand, I love this game’s unique take on an Action-Platformer with a grappling hook, with this game’s zipline hook requiring a connection at both ends to be formed. When it comes to the gameplay… I have mixed feelings. ![]() I was only able to find a few examples to share, but they’re both good: Title Theme and Stage Music. The presentation here does a fantastic job recapturing the classic era of 8- and 16-bit games that the game is clearly trying to evoke, with nice 2D pixel art visuals and a really fantastic synthesized soundtrack that seems reminiscent of games like Mega Man X. This is an old-school game that evokes memories of games like Bionic Commando with players fighting off hordes of military and technical enemies using a high-tech grappling hook, but it is very much its own thing. Steel Assault is an Action-Platformer released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2021.
